5 Coffee Shops to Visit After the Quarantine

5 Coffee Shops to Visit After Quarantine

By: Julia Prendergast

Here’s a list of some fantastic local coffee shops you can support from home, or visit once they’re open to show them some love!

Happy Goat Coffee Company

Happy Goat has been exploding across Ottawa recently, with 8 cafes in total – including one inside the Bank Street Staples! They sell fair trade coffee, actually travelling to the farmer’s country of origin to meet them and negotiate a fair price. As they state, their coffee is powered by a Dr. Hanns Lagenbahn, “an alchemist who can turn simple beans into coffee gold”.

Their Laurel St. cafe is the only store open, with the limited hours of 9am to 4pm. You can swing by to grab a coffee (or coffee beans) to go, or order online. They’re offering free shipping on orders over $40! Their coffees range from the Guatemala Huehuehtenango, which was voted Best Drip Coffee OCF in 2019, to the Brazilian Peaberry Dark – they even have a Peruvian Decaf blend for those without a caffeine addiction.

Little Victories Coffee Roasters

Little Victories is an independent, Ottawa-born coffee shop that is owned by “two coffee professionals” – a barista and a roaster. They ethically source their coffees, and deliver their wholesale coffees in re-usable pails, with their store using compostable retail bags. They are extremely committed to the environment!

Both of their cafes are closed right now, but you can order online! If you use code ‘COMMUNITY‘, you’ll get free shipping locally or for orders of 3 bags or more across Canada.

The Art House Cafe

Not only does the Art House Cafe have great coffee, their cafe (which is in a house) is the perfect backdrop for your next Instagram post. The original infrastructure of the house is still in place, and there’s original artwork covering almost every inch of the walls. Their mission is to “bring the Ottawa art scene to you in a space where you can eat, drink, create, and learn”.

By night, the Art House Cafe is a lounge bar serving beer and cocktails. You can even find board game nights happening periodically! Be sure to show them some love after their temporary closure is over.

Arlington Five

Arlington Five is located just behind Wilf & Ada’s, cleverly named after it’s street address. It opened in 2015 and is typically open seven days a week, featuring a rotating menu of food and impressive coffees.

It’s a space open and comfortable for all, while still modern with stone walls and wooden tables. They also serve Happy Goat coffee, so if you’re a fan of the brand, you can’t go wrong!

Figaro Coffee House

Figaro Coffee House is on Industrial Avenue in Ottawa, serving fresh pastries and amazing coffee, tea, and specialty drinks. They feature a pour over, a method preferred among coffee enthusiasts. It means that hot water is poured over the grounds, producing a great cup of coffee.

If you’re ever feeling lazy one morning, you can order Figaro Coffee from home on UberEats!
