5 Local Breweries You Have to Try!
By: Julia Prendergast
Happy National Beer Day! We’ve compiled a list of 5 Ottawa-born breweries you can support from home – and go visit once they open again:
1. Beyond the Pale Brewing Company
250 City Centre Avenue
Not only does Beyond the Pale have some amazing craft brews, their aesthetic is picture-perfect with hand-painted art lining the walls. Though they’re closed for the time being, you can still get a taste with home delivery! Shipping occurs Monday-Friday at 2pm, free for Ottawa addresses or $15 in shipping across Ontario – if you’d rather get out of the house for a bit, they are open for pick-up only.
We highly recommend ‘Pink Fuzz’, a grapefruit American wheat beer. If you’re a fan of that sour, grapefruit zest, this is definitely the beer for you. They use citrus in the brewing process!

2. Flora Hall Brewing
37 Flora Street
Flora Hall Brewing’s open-concept restaurant at a prime location, just off Bank Street, is only part of the appeal! Flora Hall, the building, was built in 1927 for the Welch and Johnston automotive firm. Car repairs were conducted there for over 50 years, before it turned into a ‘biker garage’. As Flora Hall Brewing states, parents used to warn their kids not to go down Flora Street while the biker garage had residence. After they left, the building sat empty before it was converted into Flora Hall Brewing in 2016. They now sell a variety of beers and quality food, inspiring great conversation!
Until they open again, you can order beer to Ottawa addresses from Monday-Saturday, with free delivery on orders over $37.
3. Lowertown Brewery
73 York Street
Lowertown Brewery has been in place in Ottawa’s Byward Market since 2014, featuring a fully-functioning brewery on-site. It takes up the back room and the basement! This brewery also crafts its menu with locally-sourced products, complete with freshly baked bread, a smoker, and a rotisserie for a selection of meats.
Though they are closed temporarily, you definitely need to check out their patio once they’ve opened! You could also try the El Camino, a smooth and crisp lager. You’ll often catch artists like Kimberly Sunstrum performing!

4. Overflow Brewing Company
2477 Kaladar Avenue
The Overflow Brewing Company is inspired by the ‘science of and secrets of being happy in life‘. This is represented by ‘flow’ in their title, referring to the ‘state of flow‘ everyone is looking for in their lives. Their brews are sure to bring some happiness to your palate, with brews like Landlocked, their IPA.
They’re offering free shipping on home deliveries until April 12th! After they’ve opened, be sure to visit their taproom (open 7 days a week)!
5. Bicycle Craft Brewery
850 Industrial Ave #12
The Bicycle Craft Brewery was founded in 2014, with a passion for natural and delicious beer (that’s right – it’s unfiltered!). They are known for their unique flavours and pairings, as seen in their seasonal brews and mainstays. From the Bloom Pale Ale to Mr. Templeton’s Wee Heavy, you won’t be disappointed.
Better yet, they’re offering free delivery in Ottawa for orders of 12 cans or more. You can even add a donation to the Ottawa Food Bank with your order!
