5 Facts You Didn’t Know About ‘I Don’t Care’ By Ed Sheeran And Justin Bieber
By Mary Fournier
As you should now know, JUMP!’s $1,000 Song is ‘I Don’t Care’ by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber…which is something you should definitely care about! I mean, who doesn’t want to instantly win $1,000 for listening to a song? So, while your ears are constantly listening for ‘I Don’t Care’ to play, why not learn some facts about the song that’ll make your bank account happy.
1. It’s The Fourth Time Ed And Justin Have Collaborated Together
They both did guest vocals on Lil’ Dicky’s song ‘Earth’, Ed co-wrote Justin’s song (maybe you’ve heard of it), ‘Love Yourself’ and Major Lazor’s song ‘Cold Water,’ which features Justin.
2. ‘I Don’t Care’ Broke A World Record
On Spotify, it debuted with 10.977 million daily global streams, breaking Spotify’s single-day streaming record and topping the previous record held by Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ which had 10.819 million streams. Must be nice.
3. It Was Ed’s Wife Who Suggested The Collab
Ed’s wife, Cherry Seaborn, was the one who suggested Ed collaborate with Justin on ‘I Don’t Care’. In an interview, Ed told American radio personality, Charlamagne Tha God that because both he and Justin recently got married, it would make sense for them to work together on a song about being with the woman you love at an event and focusing more on the person you love than the event itself.
4. The Song Might Not Have Happened If It Wasn’t For ‘Lady Marmalade’
Who would’ve guessed that the iconic 2001 version of ‘Lady Marmalade’ by Christina Aguilera, Mya, P!nk, and Lil’ Kim for the ‘Moulin Rouge’ soundtrack is the reason ‘I Don’t Care’ exists. In the same interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Ed said, “I had an idea. Get Bruno (Mars), Bieber and me on a record, how fun would that be?” While he didn’t record a song featuring both Bruno and Justin together, he does have a song on his new album with Bruno. But can you imagine how ‘I Don’t Care’ would sound if Bruno was on it? I think we need an updated version ASAP.
5. Ed And Justin Didn’t Shoot The Music Video Together
The magic of editing and technology, eh? During the music video shoot, the schedules of Ed and Justin were so hectic that Justin’s portions were shot in Los Angeles while Ed, who was on tour in Japan at the time, shot his scenes in Osaka.
