WHAT'S NEXT - Keeping Up With The Canadians

Welcome to the latest edition of ‘WHAT’S NEXT’, your weekly update on new music and the latest releases. This week, we’re keeping up with the Canadians!

You can watch this week’s video by CLICKING HERE.

We start with Jessie Reyez, whose new album ‘Before Love Came To Kill Us’ was released on March 30th. The is her first full album and follows up her EP, ‘Kiddo’, which dropped back in 2017, featuring the hit single, “Figures”.

Like many artists at this time, Jessie was having trouble deciding if the timing was right to release the album, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, she left it up to the fans to decide on social media if the album should be released. An overwhelming 97% of her fans said, YES!!

The reviews for the album have been very positive. Some critics have used words like, “beautiful”, “fearless” and “the start for a rising star” in their album descriptions. This 14 track album includes “Coffin”, the second track she’s worked on with Eminem, plus her latest single, “Love In The Dark”.

Drake dropped a brand new track in the early hours of this past Friday. No hype or buzz leading up to it, just a “here you go” and done. A tactic that is not uncommon for when Drake releases a new track.

The video is pretty surreal. It begins with scenes of a very quiet and empty Toronto (because everyone is in self-isolation/quarantine right now) and features Drake dancing from room to room in his HUGE mansion, located in Toronto’s Bridle Path neighbourhood. Of course, several of Drizzy’s previously released tracks have involved some kind of dance, and “Toosie Slide” is no exception.

Finally, The Weeknd released his third single from his album “After Hours”, which dropped just three weeks ago. His previous single “Blinding Lights” #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks.

You may remember previously I mentioned that the album was on the dark side. Well, the video for his new single, “In Your Eyes” even includes a disclaimer, due to graphic scenes. (You’ve been warned.)

The video may be a little gory, but the song is fantastic!

The Weeknd has putting out teasers for another video that will be released on Wednesday, for the song, “Until I Bleed Out”.
