It’s the end of the road for the new Star Wars trilogy tonight, The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres, and I’ve got my tickets. So I thought I would countdown my favourite Star Wars movies, from worst to best.
Remember this is my own personal list, so remember that when you tweet me that I’m an idiot.
10: Episode I – The Phantom Menace(1999)
Ugh…listen it’s not as bad as people remem…yeah it’s not good. But it has one redeeming quality….Darth F’n Maul.
The Good: Look up
The Bad: Jar Jar Binks…….seriously
9. Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
Meh, this was boring. And I’m going to try and be nice here when I talk about Anakin and Padme…I didn’t buy it. There were a couple decent action scenes here, and I think Ewan McGregor is a great Obi Wan Kenobi. At the end tho, this was another forgettable entry into the franchise.
The Good: General Greivous was a cool looking character, who legit looked like a threat.
The Bad: There was still a Jar Jar Binks in the movie
The Ugly: The 2 hour 22 minute runtime
8. Solo – A Star Wars Story (2018)
We didn’t need this movie, it was okay. A charismatic cast made this entry watchable, if not forgettable.
The Good: Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian
The Bad: A predictable ending
The Ugly: How Han got the “Solo”
7. The Last Jedi (2017)
Was it bad?…yeah, but not the worst in the series. From strange choices from established characters, to jokes that weren’t funny, and scenes that were completely useless. The Last Jedi is the most polarizing in the series.
The Good: Rey and Kylo vs. Snokes Guards
The Bad: A completely useless casino scene with Finn and Rose that stretched way too long
The Ugly: Rian Johnsons treatment of the Luky Skywalker character (when he chucked the lightsabre, it set the tone for the rest of the movie)
6: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
The best of the prequels by far. And seeing what finally made Anakin become Darth Vader was a story that I think needed to be told. Once you get past some of the wooden acting, there were a few standout moments from this installment. And one really bad moment….more on that in a few seconds
The Good PT. 1: Anakin vs. Obi-Wan in an epic lightsaber battle on Mustafar
The Good PT. 2 – Yoda vs. Darth Sidious
The Bad AND the UGLY: ONE SCENE, or more like one word “NOOOOO”
5. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
The story of how far the rebels went to stop the Empire. Making this the darkest movie in the Star Wars series. A great, and at times hard to watch movie that spotlight the sacrifices made for the greater good.
The Good: Casting of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donny Yen, Mad Mikkelsen, and the always great Ben Mendelsohn.
The Bad: The overuse of a quirky droid as the comic relief, K-2S0
The Ugly: The overuse of a CGI generated Grand Moff Tarkin. The first shot of him was a reflection in a window, which worked. But, he would be in a lot more scenes, and eventually all you could see was how awkward it was.
4. The Force Awakens (2015)
I think this movie delivered in everything it needed to do. It catered to both hardcore and new fans to the franchise. With great characters, solid action, and a story that even tho familiar, still worked.
The Good: The Lightsaber goes to Rey, and sets up a great battle with Kylo Ren.
The Bad: SPOILER ALERT…..How Chewbacca completely ignores Leia after Han Solo is killed by Kylo Ren…..seriously?
The Ugly: Kylo Ren comes off as a whiny sith, who wants their Siths to be whiny?
3. Star Wars (1978)
The one that started it all….a classic story of Good vs. Evil. And the introduction of one of the greatest villains in movie history, Darth Vader.
The Good: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….
The Bad: no complaints from me lol
The Ugly: The constant changing of the scene between Han Solo and Greedo…Han shot first by the way.
2. Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Yes, I know this is the one on top of most people list. It has all the elements, action, suspense, love, drama. And of course, one of the biggest twists in movie history. It also introduces new and classic characters like Lando, and Boba Fett. But for me, only one edges it out for the top spot.
The Good: The carbonite scene, and the battle of Hoth are pretty awesome, but only one can take this…
The Bad: After seeing Darth Vader, and Lando Calrissian do it. No non-superhero can pull off a cape the same again.
The Ugly. The stormtroopers aim.
1. Return of the Jedi (1982)
I could have flip flopped on my Top 2 to be honest. I know that Empire is usually on the top of most lists, but I always enjoy watching this one more. Not sure why, maybe it’s the finality of it. Luke finally realizes his power, and what he must do with Vader. Plus, the final assault on the new Death Star is pretty awesome.
The Good: A satisfying and at times touching ending to the original trilogy.
The Bad: We needed more Wedge in the whole series, he’s a bad ass.
The Ugly: The Ewoks. Yeah they’re adorable, but it also looked like they were planning on eating Luke, Solo, and Chewbacca at one point.
There is my countdown of my fav Star Wars movies. Send me your list on Twitter
