The first big storm of the season hit Eastern Ontario on Monday afternoon, causing slippery roads, reduced viability and many accidents on roadways in the region. Environment Canada has issued advisories for Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect for:
- Ottawa North – Kanata – Orléans
- Ottawa South – Richmond – Metcalfe
Snow heavy at times is expected tonight and will continue into early Tuesday morning. Total snowfall amounts near 10 cm are likely.
Travel will be impacted due to accumulating snow, particularly during the evening commute as well as the Tuesday morning commute.
Snowfall Warning in effect for:
- Cornwall – Lancaster
- Maxville – Alexandria
- Morrisburg – Long Sault
- Winchester – Newington
Significant snowfall continuing into Tuesday morning.
Snow, heavy at times, will continue tonight into early Tuesday morning. Snowfall accumulations near 15 cm are expected by morning.
Travel will be impacted into Tuesday morning due to the accumulating snow.
This snowfall is due to a developing low pressure system that is tracking south of the lower Great Lakes tonight.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
If you must travel on Monday night or Tuesday morning, please give yourself some extra time, make sure you have a winter emergency kit and travel safely.
