Actor Robert De Niro and former vice-president Joe Biden are the latest targets in a series of suspected mail bombs being sent to prominent Democrats.

Investigators said they were similar to crude pipe bombs sent to former president Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and CNN on Wednesday.

Pipe bombs sent to prominent U.S. addresses — what we know so far

On Thursday morning, a suspected bomb addressed to De Niro, was sent to a building in the Tribeca area on 375 Greenwich St., home to the Tribeca Film Festival and the Tribeca Grill. De Niro, a frequent critic of U.S. President Donald Trump, is one of the founders of the film festival and a co-owner of the restaurant.

Police said the suspected explosive device sent to De Niro may have been sitting in the mailroom of his building for a day or more before it was discovered.

A few hours later, a suspicious package addressed to Biden was found at a mail facility in New Castle County in Delaware, a federal law enforcement official told Reuters.

A second package addressed to Biden was been intercepted at a mail facility in Wilmington, Delaware. Both similar markings and characteristics as the packages containing bombs sent to other prominent Democrats.

Suspicious packages have been seized in New York, Washington, D.C., Florida and California. None of the ten bombs detonated, and nobody was hurt.

On Wednesday, pipe bombs packed with shards of glass were intercepted en route to CNN and several prominent Democrats in an unnerving wave that deepened political tensions and fears two weeks before national midterm elections.

The targets of the bombs were some of the figures most frequently criticized by Trump, who still assails Clinton at rallies while supporters chant “lock her up” — two years after he defeated her and she largely left the political scene.

Trump also often singles out cable news network CNN as he rails against the “fake news” media.

In wake of pipe bombs, Trump blames mainstream media for ‘anger’ in America

At a Wisconsin rally Wednesday night Trump called attention to “how nice I’m behaving tonight” but on Thursday morning he attacked the media.

“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” Trump wrote. “It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”

Law enforcement officials said all the packages were similar: manila envelopes with bubble-wrap interior bearing six stamps and the return address of Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She is the former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee who was accused by Clinton rivals of secretly helping the party’s eventual presidential nominee.

The devices all were sent to an FBI lab in Virginia to be studied. Officials provided no details on a possible suspect or motive.
