Well the soap opera is officially over. Sens captain Erik Karlsson has been traded to the San Jose Sharks.
This is how the trade reportedly goes down
San Jose gets
- D – Erik Karlsson
- F – Francis Perron
- F – Chris Tierney
- D – Delon DeMelo
- Prospect Josh Norris
- F -Rudolfs Balcers
- 1st round pick 2020
- 2nd round pick 2019
- 2 conditional draft picks
And it didn’t take long for San Jose to welcome their new defenceman
Sens fans can’t be too shocked as the rumors of him leaving have been around for over a year.
And after the alleged online bullying incident between Erik’s wife and Mike Hoffmans girlfriend, you can understand why Erik would want a fresh start.
Drafted 15th overall in 2008, Erik has become arguably when healthy, the best defenceman in the NHL. He won the Norris trophy twice as the NHL’s best D-Man.
In nine seasons here in Ottawa, Erik scored 126 goals, and 392 assists for 518 points.
On the other side, the ready to play Chris Tierney scored 17 goals and 23 assists last season.
Earlier this week the Sens released that weird interview with Eugene Melnyk which pretty much told the fans that the team is heading for a rebuild.
Sens will probably argue that 4 players and 4 picks from this trade, is a pretty good haul, but I’m sure not all fans will be happy.
When I think of Karlsson as a Senator, this play will always come to mind…
